Bill St. Clair (billstclair@gleasonator.com)'s status on Friday, 10-Feb-2023 21:45:20 JST Bill St. Clair @davew Pleroma Has Markdown I’m typing this to a Rebased server. Rebased is a Pleroma fork. It supports Markdown for entries. And my client, Mammudeck, allows Markdown input, when the server supports it. Why Gargron has not added Markdown to Mastodon, I don’t know.
Pleroma servers also default to a 5,000 character post limit. Why Gargron doesn’t do that, I don’t know.
Soapbox, the default web client for Rebased, has a WYSIWYG editor for Markdown. Mammudeck shows the formatted text in another window, as you type the Markdown.

Dave Winer ☕️ (davew@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 10-Feb-2023 21:45:21 JST Dave Winer ☕️ Mastodon should either support markdown, or pass through the marks unaltered.
What they do now is the only wrong choice, they strip the marks, and don’t render.
In other words if I use md’s equiv of *italics* either turn it into actual italics or leave the asterisks alone.
