   Hi Aral Balkan. I'm very curious about your ideas about this news.

   #Mozilla will open a #Mastodon instance next year, and wants to take a leading role in developing the #Fediverse further.

   Do you think it's good news that Mastodon will have such a big player stepping in, or is this really bad news, as Mozilla uses a lot of nice words but still is a partner of Meta?

     @onnob @Grutjes Can Greenpeace take half a billion dollars in funding from ExxonMobil every year and still say they exist to protect the environment? Sure, they can. Will people believe them? If they’re in the tech industry, probably.

     Thanks! (I did miss that)

     I write more about racism, covid and some other subjects, so I was unsure if my opinion was grounded, that's why I was checking with you, to see if there would be arguments I had not thought of. Thanks for the confirmation.

     @aral @Grutjes Greenpeace not really. But Mozilla has been in bed with Google for over a decade.

     But I think Mozilla experimenting with Mastodon is a good thing, there's a lot of room for improvements and adaptation. Let's say I am not totally against it. Worst case scenario it's ExxonMobil experimenting with solar or wind.

     (I do think Mozilla should move away from surveillance capitalism though)
