Kotaku namedrops Kiwi Farms in their Gay Baby article. https://archive.is/Qfk1i
To be totally fair, as someone who beat Alan Wake 2. I totally understand why someone would believe that the black female protagonist was a last-minute race-swap. There's some really bizarre writing where characters speak like she's white. Then, out of nowhere, she suddenly hates white people for approximately 5 seconds, never to be mentioned again.

What was the aforementioned KF post?
-
@CrackSmokerHD I honestly don't know. I just assume the writer is retarded. It doesn't matter, it's all spin.
-
@crunklord420 the hating white people was the evil dark place version of her lol, did you play the whole game? If anything it's saying that attitude is bad. It's possible the race swap was a last minute thing but it seems more likely it's because they wanted to cast lance reddick as her dad (rip) since the guy who plays warlin door is doing his best lance reddick impression and Remedy has worked with him in the past.
-
@animeirl yeah I get it was the evil dark place, but it's all ambiguous. It's something I'd let slide if it wasn't for the "yeah I'm actually Scandinavian" (said the African-American).
-
@crunklord420 I think the main influence sweet baby probably had was the weirdly high number of PoC npcs scattered around in rural washington lol
-
@animeirl maybe, but I think they were written to intentionally be cringe.
-
@animeirl I allow for a certain degree of leaps of logic, but you stack too many on top and it renders the writing "compromised".
Personally Alan Wake 2 failed my personal woke-test, but not because of any single one of these writing choices.
"You can be a million races", but why? Why is that important to the story? More importantly, why is being black important to the story? If it's important she's Scandinavian, why not just make her Scandinavian? Am I actually supposed to believe this clearly very-black-woman-and-probably-not-biracial actually grew up in a white family in Scandinavia? Is that why she hates white people? Why do this at all?
-
@crunklord420 shes mixed race. You can be Scandinavian and half black I really don't see the issue
-
@crunklord420 idk why you think shes clearly not biracial. she doesn't look any more black than obama who's half white. also again only her evil version hated white people that seemed pretty obvious. There is some cringe woke stuff in alan wake 2 but it's all side shit not related to the main story imo
-
@animeirl okay but why is she black if it was important that she be Scandinavian? Wouldn't it have been better for the story if she looked remotely like the people she was supposed to be related to?
-
@crunklord420 warlin door is seemingly going to be an important character across both alan wake and control and is an alternate universe version of lance reddick's character in quantum break. Arguably they could have not made him her father but it seems like they are planning to do something with their relationship so idk i dont think it's that big of an issue unless you're American and conditioned to think any% black = black
-
@crunklord420 cause of who they wanted to cast as her dad
-
@animeirl maybe but sounds like Alan Wake 3 isn't going to happen. I don't know what Remedy does from here tbh. I tried playing Control after Alan Wake 2 and the gameplay just feels lackluster and story wasn't hitting despite being a huge SCP fan.
