I mean sure, there's still a lot of time; but nothing about this strategy says "this guy will win" and there's some shit that's pretty hard to come back from. Stuff like saying "there's two competing stories here" after a massacre committed by your favorite allies that left 100+ starving people dead.
I can't predict the future, but I'm good at spotting trend lines and this one is definitely trending towards "getting your ass kicked by a reality TV show fascist crook in a rigged oligarchy."

Nobody put a gun to Biden's head and said "you HAVE to run for a 2nd term." Saying "I'm not seeking the nomination" and having a real primary WAS an option. So when he falls on his face and hands you Trump/Project 2025/a fascist dictatorship, the blame is gonna lie in one place... Joe Biden.
If you want the job buddy, that means doing the job, and that means meeting voters - even the ones who are outrageously mad at you for carrying water for Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza.

I mean it's not even just the President's response to the massacre in Gaza, although that would be disastrous on its own. At the very same time he's hemorrhaging support because "genocide isn't popular" buddy is at the border, pushing a fascist border security bill, and begging Trump, a guy he's called a fascist, or fascistic (lol) to help him pass it. When your whole campaign is "fuck you, at least I'm not that pig" it does no good to try to hug the pig on TV. Makes it seem like you're lying.
