@PG_Kelly @adam I'm not questioning if @eriner is capable or not. We all expect a social media service to always be available. To achieve that exceeds the infrastructure of a rural residence. Multiple carrier connectivity along with dual substation power drops along with battery failover backed up by generators with prepaid fuel contracts are minimum requirement for the services to remain always available. The costs for these requirements are what drives developers to rent shared hosting.

Matt Hamilton (eriner@noauthority.social)'s status on Thursday, 29-Feb-2024 11:34:51 JST Matt Hamilton @PG_Kelly why are you the one fielding complaints? From whom?
Nobody has complained to me, I didn't even see any complaints on the timeline until yours (I usually explain the outage when it happens if I do).

@SirJoe -
Matt Hamilton (eriner@noauthority.social)'s status on Thursday, 29-Feb-2024 11:34:54 JST Matt Hamilton @PG_Kelly It went down because there are high winds in the area and one of my UPS' is failing and I haven't replaced it/the batteries yet.
Power, ISP, or random outages on my end for one reason or another are a tradeoff I've made in exchange for being able to touch the server that has the database (all the data) and ensure it is encrypted at rest.
If 100% uptime is the most important thing to you, consider running your own server or joining a corporate service with hundreds of staff.

Matt Hamilton (eriner@noauthority.social)'s status on Thursday, 29-Feb-2024 11:40:51 JST Matt Hamilton @PG_Kelly well if you want them to stop complaining to you, my email is on my profile.
That said, I'm surprised "long term users" complain about it. NAS has been up and down for MUCH longer durations in the past.
Top of my head, I remember one time a few years ago when my ISP shit the bed and the server was down for like 3 days, completely outside of my control.

PG_Kelly (pg_kelly@noauthority.social)'s status on Thursday, 29-Feb-2024 11:40:52 JST PG_Kelly @eriner I get email from the a few long term users that have my email. They complain about everything. I don't have much to do with day to day ops .17 tears ago I really helped out. NA has grown so much since then. It's unbelievable! They contact me personally think I can flip the magic switch.
