   the concept of 'my 600lbs life' seems backwards. the people on it go to a doctor to get weight loss surgery, and he usually tells them that they have to lose weight so they qualify for it. some people lose 100lbs before getting the surgery. but why, when you have proven that you can lose 100lbs without surgery, get a dangerous surgical procedure at ~450lbs of weight?

     @lain this is America, we want shortcuts for everything. Health issues? pills. Not working? surgery.
     
     Self improvement? Exercise? Changing your habits or diet? No, there's a medical intervention that will solve the problem instead.

     @augustus i guess the show is mostly a mental illness freakshow like most things on TLC, but it's impressive that some people actually just do it and lose like 400 lbs.

     @lain @feld some people on the show opted to not go through with the surgery after losing a bunch of weight without it. on the other hand, some people get the surgery and rebound into over-eating, stretching out their stomach and making the surgery completely pointless.
     
     the surgery helps some people since it makes them physically incapable of eating more. but where there's a will, there's a way.
