   is there an easy tool to encrypt a file with a given password? I know gpg can do it but it's so complicated. i want something like signify but for encryption with a password.

     Just compress it with 7z using a password — it's no replacement for proper cryptography, but it's good enough in a lot of cases.
     You can also "encrypt" file names so no one would even know what's inside without knowing the password.

     give the file to a homeless guy on a flash drive and give him five bucks and tell him not to give the flash drive to anyone who doesn't tell him the password.
