@EdBoatConnoisseur @King_Noticer @SuperSnekFriend China wants it because they both speak the same language, it was ming and then qing province in 1683. In 1895 it was Japan until agreements wedged out by the US to relinquish control of the Island to KMT post 1945 which was a very controversial move.
Feels more like a island on periphery without a modern nation to belong to. Like Hokkaido during Meiji era and Karafuto. But they currently speak and genetic is Chinese

gentooP (gentoop@social.mikutter.hachune.net)'s status on Wednesday, 28-Feb-2024 15:31:52 JST gentooP @EdBoatConnoisseur @King_Noticer @SuperSnekFriend Comparing to Swiss Confederacy which was born from the 13th century, it was born out of opposition to Haspburg and/or Luxembourg. Otherwise that nation shares a lot of semblance with the Bavarian Alps people and Speak German.
Taiwan is much more younger and the reason for China's claim is the KMT power, if it was still Japan or independent but little ethnicly han state like Singapore who can't speak it wouldn't be a issue
