Which Xenoblade is the best? I'd say XBC2, and the reason is obvious. Clearly the plot and writing is.... superior.

@rlier23 Not just that but I loved XC2's story. It was well contained and a really wonderful journal of a boy becoming a man. XC1 wasn't bad but it was very JRPG kill god and uncover the universe type thing while XC2 was a lot more grounded. I do concede that my bias is that I tend to enjoy more contained stories a lot more. XC3 threw in the whole timeline mixing and world overlapping stuff and I just kinda didn't care too much for it. Even the whole between worlds of XC1 and XC2 was wearing novelty, but then it also made the universe *too* open. It's like the multiverse stuff, no real consequences and diminishes a lot of what makes certain things special. PSO2 suffered from this too with the weird time travel story events... like wtf is going on...

@supersid333 XC1 wasn't in a pocket world, it was a separate parallel universe. Takahashi probably was whipping up something to try and pull Xenosaga into it (XC3's ultimate act and ending is FULL of Xenosaga references), and had to make things fit into what XC2 establishd, so the retconning of Alvis as the Ontos core was both genius and just the logical move.
Back on topic; I just did not care much for the cast of 3, though I must concede it may be in part because of recency bias and the influx of normies. Whatever the phenomenon is called, but once all the prudes jumped on the opportunity to say that XC3's designs "fixed" XC2 and that people that like XC2 over XC3 are just coomers... it really soured my interest. Not to mention the nonsense over over Yuzuhira/Juniper...
I mean, Ethel shows off a boob window right? So the argument about more realistic and less sexual designs because of "muh serious story" (regarding the Moebius cycle) falls short. My favorite counter example is how 2B did not detract from NieR:A, despite her ass being in the camera all the time. Yoko Taro still pulled off a hot, impractically dressed fem protagonist, but the story was far more "serious" than XC3 ever will be.

@Cayhr @SpurgAnon @rlier23 I'm not fully sure what happens in 3, but XB2 had at least hinted that XB1 was happening in a pocket world that was still fairly close to the world XB2 was in. The rerelease of XB1 also hammered it in by replacing the key on Alvis' necklace with the Ontos core.
At the very least they had done well enough to ensure that there was a reasonable enough reason to bridge the two setting and had allowed Rex and his friends have a story unmolested by XC1's cast aside from the DLC blades (also had a Xenoblade X blade, even though I question whether that game actually exists).
