I want nothing to do with neighbors. Nothing. They are a variable in an equation that doesn't need to be evaluated in the first place. I have lived in my current place for six fucking years and not talked to my neighbors once, except the one wacko from across the street who stole mail and had a screaming fit on my property.
She was very lucky I was in Germany at the time or she would have had a fair chance to have been gunned down by yours truly after attempting to break in the rear glass door. I still have the video from three of my seven cameras of the incident. I would have been happy to oblige her, because it would mean she would never come on the property again, being in a casket and all.
I expect to be happy, carefree, and safe at home, and other people up in my shit completely breaks that tranquility. That's why I want land, and lots of it, because then I can secure my own living space properly from such variables and have a reasonable buffer from others. I currently live on five acres in the forest and it is bliss, and it is absolutely one of my primary sources of strength and clarity. It is the reason I can do so much and build so many things, completely focused.
And even then, sometimes this is not enough. While writing this entire tirade I noticed a Ford Explorer, possibly police, slow rolling by my property on my cameras. I stopped what I was doing, grabbed my 8x binoculars, turned off any background lighting, and spied on them. I could have posted this 15 minutes ago if I hadn't had such a distraction, but what could a cop being doing in the dead of night out here? Have I finally earned my FBI party van after all these years of hosting servers at home perhaps? All I know is, if I was further away from civilization, that would not have happened unless I was truly their intended target.
If I want to talk to someone, neighbor or not, I will reach out to them first in almost all cases. Or if they must get in contact with me they can send me a letter. Or email me. Whatever. Just don't come near me and remind me of your presence. I will socialize when I want to socialize, on my terms.

@nyx @Arcana @Clover @disarray It's generally irrelevant if this doesn't apply outside the US because this is where I live and will continue living.
If there's some magical commie paradise out in East Europe where everyone gets along and sings Kumbaya on Fridays then fine.

@7666 @Arcana @Clover @disarray yeah you know you're coming at all of this from the cultural and material circumstances of being an amerikan where everyone is incentivized to be an atomized narcissistic sociopath and it's sad how often I see people being unable to recognize this and making it into a universal judgement, especially applying this to the extremely different circumstances outside of the west
but hey, feel free to continue being ignorant, that's the most sacred amerikan freedumb
