After a very punishing week, finished with a tough Friday in
which I went to bed at 1 and got up at 3 to continue working,
I ended running the gauntlet by watching the director's cut of
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Sometimes people talk about how
a moviegoing experience is transcendent, and once in a while they're right.
For me, it was watching Tron Legacy in the theatre in 3D - and also this.
The extreme fatigue I am experiencing took the already superhuman feats and
nostalgia blast from the score and combined them into something truly
transcendent. This wasn't the same movie I watched back in 2008 or so.
It had new material spliced into the film which I will be careful not to spoil. I am not worried about spoiling a game from the late 1990s, so I'll mention that survivor's guilt and dealing with the awareness of one's own limitations are themes
within it. That's why I don't want them to rewrite the story of the original game to undo many or all of the deaths. I've started to hear rumors that the remake is starting to follow the original a bit more closely, so I will hold on to hope that the remake turns out to be faithful to the original.
Watching this reminded me of how much I love FFVII and made me feel thankful to be alive. I might be a little woozy from lack of sleep, so I am going to take some melatonin and turn in. Good night, everyone.
