gave a coworker a turbo pascal book and a link to freepascal.org. doing my part in spreading the word of less soydev languages

the main criticism I see is that FPC makes slower binaries than say, Delphi does.
and yes Delphi lets you make console applications but it's not Linux native (you do dev on Windows and cross compile unfortunately).

Neat, even RISC-V support. Also some XML and HTML parsers, socket APIs and such, so it seems fairly "batteries included" from first glance.
