   The spam issue sucks balls to live through, but it is a very interesting case study...

   What I'm experiencing personally is sporadic posts, each from a random account set up on a random instance. One post per account/instance. Even instance level blocking is completely useless against this.

   Given how many instances there are out there, poorly maintained (if maintained at all) there's almost no way to prevent this. Unless the spammer finally exhausts the supply of instances, at which case the only effective action is to suddenly create a massive blocklist of dozens of minor Masto/Misskey instances.

     Secondary Thoughts: another way to deal with it is to have admins on instances with spam accounts compare logs and see if there's any common element in the way these accounts are logged into.

     Finding the upstream source of this would provide a more effective choke-point to cut off. Or failing that, find out where the fucker lives and take a pipe wrench to his teeth. In Minecraft.

     @japananon I'm going to add a setting that disables notifications from unknown accounts in the next release.
     Ultimately all of this boils down to ability to reach / ability to spam tradeoff. The problem can't be solved completely, but Mitra will have fine-grained permission system that will allow its users to find a comfortable middle ground.
