Normally not one to post dumbass images like this, but I can't agree more. the idea of Touhou being grim is entirely antithetical to the series as a whole. a few darker aspects or jokes don't mean anything to the whole of the series.

@Iffine The youkai eat people canonically in 2hu though. You can have both dark shit and cute shit, see Blue Archive.
-
@Iffine @SuperSnekFriend I prefer material that isn't only cutesy myself though. A lack of (real) conflict really bores me to death.

@SuperSnekFriend @Immahnoob Normalfags and tourists are so obsessed with media having violence, pain, and depression in it, they can't seem to understand the concept of media without. It must suck to try looking for any MGE fan-stuff and seeing that shit (a pain I will know in the future once I deep dive in too). I could also refer to cuteness aggression for this, as it seems to be prevalent in any work with cute art.
Also I would argue the Touhou grimdark fans are butchering a lot, because they seem to get their ideas from fanworks that all set out to be the edgiest shit imaginable. The majority of official Touhou works are all on the level of "girls shooting each other because they're bored on a friday night and like fighting," so trying to poorly hamfist the darker elements into the front just doesn't work, nor does it represent the series.

@Immahnoob Wrote it wrong I guess. Grimdark is more what I meant. The dark aspects are isolated and often left to backstories or side-details. Youkai eating people isn't always a true statement, many live through other means depending on their legend and how they've changed over time and in this different world.
It all just annoys me because people really over-exaggerate how dark Touhou is, especially after the Forbidden Scrollery manga in which a sheltered young girl who is already weary of youkai but is a complete dumbass decides to collect super cursed books and accidentally manifests a magic ability. The manga is slightly less happy-go-lucky than usual in very few chapters, but people latch onto those few as if Gensokyo is worse than hell. Also Zounose. Not much more to say other than his works are all non-canon anyways so I don't get why so many people latch onto them.

@Iffine @Immahnoob
At least with Touhou, you do have the more gothic elements that keeps you on toes, so these grimdark edgelords aren't completely butchering the source matieral.
You have people, despite the creator repeating over and over that the setting is meant to a happy lovey-dovey, "every guy and monster girl gets happy endo" one, try and torture the source material into this grim dark, unhappy, and "secretly evil" setting no one supposedly should like. Yes, you still have those fags with MGE. I think it comes from those people hate that KC wants sweet vanilla to be victorious. They're too brain damaged. :akko_weary:

@Immahnoob @SuperSnekFriend Preference ≠ obsession. It's completely fair to have differing tastes, and I'd not fight someone over them simply not caring for what I care for.
The difference is in the fact you recognize your tastes, while others instead form an obsession with the feeling that they need to get into something they don't like and change it so it fits their preferences and obsessions.
