@thibaultmol @wolf @narain I have my own instance but because it’s hosted by someone else (the excellent @mastohost by Hugo), I can’t change the setting as it’s not exposed in the administration panel. (Should be.)

Tbf, the 500 char limit is just a setting. Some instances choose to have higher char limits.
It's not really a mastodon limitation, it's a decision that your instance made

@aral @pietervdvn this is all a little bit overdramatic. tl;dr: Microsofts MapBuilder creates OSM accounts that can only be accessed by the users via MapBuilder. This should change, no doubt. However, users are free to create regular OSM accounts and easily overcome the limits of the restricted MB accounts. Everything else is just dramatic speculation what MS possibly could do to harm OSM. Which can be dealt with if it actually happens.

@chemo Indeed. After all, when has Microsoft (or any trillion-dollar corporation) ever behaved badly? It’s not like “embrace, extend, extinguish” was coined based on their behaviour or anything. We really should give trillion-dollar corporations every benefit of the doubt and defend them whenever we can. Poor things. What would they do without us?

@chemo It’s absolutely mind-blowing to me when a human being has the chance to side with their fellow human beings and they choose a corporation instead. Sheep defending wolves.

@aral @pietervdvn i don't care about Microsoft. I care about the content of the text. And that's mostly panicking over almost nothing. That's not radical, it's just dumb. The simple suggestion of updating the guidelines for preventing user management proxying would've done the job.
