     @MeBigbrain We don't have any of this in the family, everyone's pretty cool. Our boomers are on the other end of the spectrum, insisting that we all sock them away in "professional care" so they aren't a "burden".

     Grandkids can help grandma, that's part of what fills up their day with ACTUAL work instead of 14 hours of videogaming/tiktok. Kids got a lot of time to burn

     @Paleloon @mage @MeBigbrain That's why it's so funny, they took/take care of their parents (we all do, actually, it's part of what engendered my concubine to everybody as the lone zoomer willing to pitch in and put time in)

     It's really emblematic of a particularly successful boomer (early gen X from the 60's birth cohort too) to think every generation starts from zero. They just think it's 1965 forever, not realizing that the system has been remodeled to prevent the cream rising to the top like they saw it in their time.

     Something I do note is that so many people just don't even think about the idea of NOT using the inheritance. We've spoken about it in the family before, with all the recipients together, and kind of agreed to a loose plan that it's never to be frittered away on experiences or bullshit. It can buy land, build lives, or birth kids.

     Inheritance is NOT for shitty rich-folk cars, vacation homes in blue states, or ephemeral shit nobody will remember in 100 years. It's probably good to bring that up and lay the groundwork in your family too, every time there's friction it seems to be the result of greedy spenthrifts projecting their shittiness on everything else.

     Ideally there'd just be one particularly trustworthy guy to put it in trust and run the show, but that's just as easy to abuse.

     If my daughter openly avows "childfree!" life and dies her hair blue to move out to the coast and work for enemy groups, there's no point in guaranteeing her birthright. She's forsaken it for worldly lucre

     @WashedOutGundamPilot My family has a few hundred acres that were claimed by my great grandparents in the late 1800s via homesteading.

     Even though we know nothing about farming, we rent it out to a local farmer and refuse to sell even though we've gotten multiple offers.

     This is grandma's land and it will stay that way.

     @Codeki Most of those around us got sold off by the boomers, all became suburban developments. Divorces did a lot of damage, if you just allow them to be normal family property they're in danger of being split and liquidated by the libshit ex wife bent on petty revenge.

     Ours is all in trust, hopefully protected to an extent so no one weak link can ruin it for everybody

     Idk your situation, but with my wife's sister the family has collectively given up and now everytime she has a melt down it's shoulder shrugs all the way down.
     
     Same thing with one of my cousins that can't get it together.
     
     We've stopped worrying about them and started focusing on making sure the kids don't turn into train wrecks.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot Yeah, in my family, I won't really have to worry about getting an inheritance. My sister, however, will. My sister already has pissed away all the goodwill owed to her.

     Just recently, we had to throw away thousands, if not tens of thousands, of dollars worth of shit because my sister was too fucking lazy to properly take care of it. She had boxes and boxes of (often unworn) clothes we bought for her daughters, toys, etc all sitting in the garage. And, because she and her nigger boyfriend were lazy and shitty people, they basically just threw a couple big dogs in there for the winter. Those dogs ripped open boxes, and pissed and shit EVERYWHERE. Everything was wrecked. The Build-a-bear I built with her oldest daughter when she was three? Covered in dog shit and left to rot. The easter dresses that Grandma got the girls the year before that were "misplaced?" Covered in dogshit and left to rot.

     @pepsi_man @Codeki We toss a couple bucks to them, since they have been humbled by life. To be honest it's actually made me more empathetic, because hearing "don't worry I'll change, I don't WANT to be like this I'm just a stupid, dumb fuckup I hate it too!" seems like something I've felt before, too.

     They just got problems, as long as they at least try to change we can do just a bit. Nobody can really bring themselves to cut off the wilted branches when they aren't hostile.

     The younger two are black, so the best we can do there is to try to keep them from being too much of a detriment to society between their useless mother who hasn't kept a job more than six months her entire life, and their 50 year old drug dealing father who has SIXTEEN KIDS THAT HE KNOWS OF.

     Drug dealing, pot smoking, fucking reeked, refused to bathe. Felon, refused to work. Had 16 (known) kids. Never paid child support. Informant for the DEA. Sold drugs to highschoolers while bragging that he was an informant and the local cops couldn't do shit because of it. Just sat around all day and smoked weed and played Xbox. Just overall a disgusting piece of shit and his very existence made me far more intolerant of blacks than I had been before.

     Up until I was forced to meet him, I never knew how much niggers stink. I honestly thought it was just a thing that was joked about like Indians smelling awful. I was surprised to find out that they actually do smell fucking horrible and that smell just seeps into everything. Just an awful odor of weed, dog shit and wet garbage.
