@arstechnica VPN is so essential these days. Goodness gracious this is atrocious.
@arstechnica I feel like they shouldn't even be storing IP addresses for seven years... In fact, once they're that old it's not as if it's necessarily going to yield accurate results to try to backtrack them anymore anyway.
But yeah, despite this, if I were a film pirate I would absolutely not trust Reddit. It's amazing they chose privacy this time, but don't trust them to do it next time. They haven't exactly shown themselves to be pro-user's rights lately...
