@augustus @genmaicha this is only tangentially related, but I recently heard that the number of germans displaced / ethnically cleansed from the formerly german lands after WW2 is around twice the number of palestinians. My grandfather even came from what is now poland but i didn't somehow didn't realize that the displacement was so massive.

@lain @augustus @genmaicha Now: :pinkwojak: "You can't move millions of people from one place to another because....look, you just can't, ok!???"
Then: :satania_gun: "Businesses? Family? 500 years living in the same spot? I don't give a damn, Jerry, back to your hole you go"

@lain @genmaicha it was enormous, and they were on the losing end so got the worse of the territories being stripped. but population re-settlement was happening all across the map at that time, greeks and turks being sorted, india and pakistan were created. russia cleared out crimea and sent the volga germans out too. the war was partly a result of germans living in other countries, so I understand the naive attempted solution to get everybody into their own defined ethnic territories. its darkly amusing that this principle of the post-1945 regime has been completely ignored and trampled on in the mad rush to turn everywhere in the West brown as fast as possible.
