@heavens_feel someone found out that simply turning the brightness down helps a lot. Atlus apparently also forgot to bake the dorm lighting which is why its so washed out.
I'll stick with FES and P3P though because I dont like the direction sega is heading.

@Tadano @Tamamo I've always disagreed that P3 is ONLY about accepting death. It's about living life to the fullest despite the fact that death could be looming. Chidori and Shinji(on femc route) getting second chances fits perfectly with that. And even if they end up saving MC that still doesn't detract from the fact that they were ready to give it all away but didn't let it effect their relationships in a negative way.

@heavens_feel @Kyonko802 Now that you put it in words, I definitely realize what I was feeling off about the screenshots of P3R I was seeing. The dreariness of P3's color palette does a lot to sell the mood of the game.
While I'm thinking about it, while P4 is brighter I still think some of it's choices are also on more of the subdued end too, like how the TV world swallowed by fog looks. P3R is just grabbing P5's design blindly while not thinking about how it hurts the impression of the game world.

@Kyonko802 @Tadano @Tamamo Second this, always hated the idea of any piece of media about "accepting death" not allowing for any joy or additional ideas. Accepting death can be done in any number of ways, and it'd be really contrary for Persona 3 to tell you to accept death as an absolute but then spend the entire game on social links, building yourself up and becoming a part of the world as a whole.
Easiest comparison is Girl's Last Tour, where death is an absolute in that desolate world, but everyone there is trying their best to find something to do with their remaining lives. They all know it could be over at any moment, but they make the best of it.

@supersid333 @Tadano @Tamamo Yeah, I get character development from social links leading to ultimate forms and stuff, but it has a lot more impact when it happens in the main story

@Kyonko802 @Tadano @Tamamo Speaking of Chidori, I'm reminded of how much stronger of an impact tier 2 personas had when they were tied to the story. Tying them to storybeats where the character's resolve was hardened made all of them stand out so much stronger.

@supersid333 @Kyonko802 @Tamamo As much as I love Persona 4, tying party Persona upgrades to their SLs was a step back. Everyone in P3 feels real while in P4 there's a sense in which your party's lives revolve around the protagonists. This problem is even worse in P5 thanks to its writing shitting the bed after Kamoshida.

@Kyonko802 @Tamamo I disagree. Both Chidori's and Shinji's early deaths emphasized the need to live life to the fullest and pushed Junpei, Akihiko and Ken to grow. Either of them living cheapens this IMO.

@Tadano @Tamamo near-death experiences can also have that impact, and the apathy syndrome and Ikutsuki do good at showing you what happens to people who fetishize death.
