     @nugger @nike @MK2boogaloo lack of impulse control; tiny time horizons; inability to understand the odds; desperation; general poor ability to manage money.

     at least, for the lottery anyway...

     People do it for actual competitive games like poker to have "skin" in the game, because winning is not enough for them.

     and then some just have a bad gambling addiction (see: points about those who compulsively play the lottery above) to the point that they do internet poker and get scammed out of their recently awarded $60k work-related injury settlement.
