   Aw I missed this convo before, but it would have been interesting. I liked how kudelia came to nothing - she was an influencer playing politics, only really useful as a figurehead....as long as the puppeteers behind the scenes want her to be.

   That riot that she saw, all that unrest was fomented and glo-nigged from the start. Season 2 saw that she was a politician without much use, only really good for drumming up investments in a bonanza on martian slave labor now that those kids are shaking up the status quo.

   McGillis likewise had these grand plans, pretentions of honor, meritocracy, and nobility that died the instant they met the real world - the comfortable legions in the fleet don't care about honor so much as getting their next meal. They'll side with the bad guys if it looks like you're rocking the boat in a way that will hurt them.

   I didn't LOVE how iron blooded orphans went in season 2, but it was at least a kind of historical accuracy where people had high hopes and a bag full of luck....that ran out before they filled their bag o' experience

     Sure, but anime is a form of escapism, if I wanted to feel bad I would just think about taxes and whatnot.
     
     It's also totally not in line to kill a gundam pilot, that was cruel, specially when he was a good person that didn't deserve death. Next time I watch it with sis I'll just watch until just before the space battle, and then stop, like I did with AoT before the plot went bad.

     @McMongoose I'm just glad we didn't get another story about idealistic, childish tards riding the wave of "democracy!" to success and utopianism. It's a bummer of an ending but it makes sense - sex slave war orphans are built to fight, and they didn't have anybody there to temper their aspirations with maturity and wisdom, so they fought to the very end

     I could argue based on what happened on the show, but by the last third of the season, not even the show itself knows what's happening.
     
     I remember one of the slides being "the bad guys dissolved the Gjallarhorn committee and put all power into the hands of a single guy in the name of democracy" it makes no sense, besides the boys always talked about a king or Mars, not democracy. It's a clusterfuck

     @McMongoose It's a mess, which is accidentally realistic in a revolution. The boys wanted power only theoretically. In reality, they were blood brothers with mcgillis and wanted him to know he had their support to the end of the line. Simplistic and animal.

     The end state is basically just more obfuscatory bureaucracy to make it seem like things were improved from the feudal structure of gjallar before. In reality nothing really got better, people died and were forgotten

     and the love interest supposedly munches rug until season 3 when you see the fatherless kid become a pilot too

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @Earmuffs IBO is interesting in the fact that the MC's realistically fit the mold of a Gundam villain then a Gundam protagonist. Tekkadan is a great mold for writing a tragic villain cast.
     
     That being said though season 2 is a mess. Season 1 was predictable but was on a solid enough foundation to be entertaining, while season 2 kinda just threw things at the wall and hoped it stuck especially since McGillis kinda sidelines the agency of main cast. The highlight of it was Hashmal, but everything around Hashmal really doesn't serve the plot in any real useful way aside from crippling Mikazuki more then he already was.

     @supersid333 @Earmuffs The stuff it hinted at was way cooler than what we got. Season 2 isn't a total abortion though - everything I've said is a cope, to an extent, but it's more interesting than the rest of the crap we've gotten from gundam since. IIRC it was written by a woman, too, so....
