   apparently virtualbox 7.0 makes it so you can't really install Windows NT4.

   that's a shame.

     the weird thing is that it is only the installer that crashes.
     once you have it installed, it works fine

     My abiding memory of NT4 is trying and failing to make it even a tiny bit secure. Windows applications had a habit of spraying stuff all over the filesystem, including in way too many privileged locations, requiring those locations to be insecure. After days of pulling my hair out I concluded NT4 could either be secure, or it could be useful, but not both.

     It's not really my area, but relying on ACLs as the foundation of your security model is a fool's errand.

     weird: I instead cloned an older NT4 Server VM I had, and it worked fine. But then I added a floppy drive, and that made it crash?

     also, fun fact: for virtualbox, right-ctrl+delete means "send ctrl-alt-delete to VM". very handy for logging in!

     for vmware it means "delete this VM"
     thankfully there's an "are you sure?" messagebox

     yay, upgraded virtualbox and now my XP VM boots again!

     and it doesn't have MSVC6 on it. this is the wrong VM
