the bit time there is 2.5 ps (20 ps per octet, transmitted on 8 lanes in parallel). really putting "physical" into "physical layer" there
i wonder, at what point can you build an ion trap by picking the right laser and screaming Ethernet frames at an ion?

@whitequark What gets me is that 10 km of fiber has about 20 megabits in flight through it at any given time.
