I try to tell people the best way to use Linux but they never listen to me. You gotta basically use it like a glacier, you get something like Debian or Ubuntu LTS, set it up just the way you like it, and rarely if ever update it.

The problem with the Linux software ecosystem is idiots upstream are constantly re-inventing the wheel and introducing half-baked code and weird shit all the time. Honestly I swear it was better 5 years ago. So you get an install that works just right, get all your tools and workflow setup and just leave it the fuck alone for a long time.
