     @BlinkRape yt-dlp. One command, no practical difference whether you're pasting the link into a browser page or into command line. Unless you're on someone else's computer or similarly limited with what you could do with the system, I don't see a reason to prefer third-party site.

     also back when I was looking specifically for other things to save, like age-gated or otherwise DRM'd video it always failed miserably

     @BlinkRape Yeah, jewtube keeps introducing breaking changes in order to render some of the tools inoperable, but for the most part devs find workarounds. It's all cat and mouse game. And since the code is in the open, I'm fairly sure majority of those services use the same script internally.
