my broken ps2 arrived but i wont be able to work on it until monday at the earliest :(

@why broken? Did you buy one broken on purpose for super cheap in an attempt to fix it? (Which most of them is just dusting the lens and playing with the CD drive gears or something and that's it?)

@coolboymew @why well you don't need the cd drive you can load games from an external drive so ig a non-working drive is a non-issue

@coolboymew @why I think if it's a fat model you can install an internal drive but if it's a slim model or if you don't want to use an internal drive you can use a USB drive

On slim PS2's you're better off loading / booting games using the netboot feature on Free McBoot.
Slim PS2's have an integrated modem for online functionality using a 10/100 ethernet jack and is much faster than the limitations of the USB 1.1 bus that PS2 consoles use. You can load games via USB but your mileage may vary. Especially with cutscenes which are a huge part of PS2's game feature set.

@ElDeadKennedy @ooignignoktoo @why Grab a Wii. They have surprisingly fun games, can run GC games natively, on top of Triforce Arcade games, and they're not HD, so they support 240p IIRC, which older consoles were, so if you have CRTs still it's a fantastic emulation machine

I wasn't a huge fan of the PS3 though my experience was with the 60GB phat model I got on the cheap that ran like a space heater. The Native PS2 BC was nice but the hardware was unreliable.
I wouldn't mind getting a super slim in 2023 and putting CFW on it and using nopaystation.
Though the only exclusive on the console I give a damn about playing is 3D Dot Game Heroes and MGS4 and both of those are totally playable on emulation in 2024.

I also know for a fact that the Wii can actually stream, via the local network, .mkv of 4:3 shows, the Wii's CPU is juuust strong enough for that (it starts shitting at 480p mkv videos however)
