oh my god, look at the design of the tray in this laserdisc player: They have a cutout for the transformer.
But no, that's not enough that it slides around the transformer: it also goes BEHIND the transformer, meaning the tray lifts up and around the transformer.
I guess that's one way to make your player like 3 inches shorter!

Is that little metal bar on the tray that ends up behind the transformer just structural, or are they possibly using it to sense the transformer field to detect if the tray is in the down position?
