     > Raffles of personal property (generally defined as all property other than real estate) are usually governed at the county level in Maryland.

     My county is listed as "Does not issue permits for raffles".

     I'll keep digging to make sure government goons aren't going to come and kidnap me if I do an online raffle to raise funds for the site.

     I bet running it online and exposing it to other states exposes me to a bunch of Federal and other states' legal bullshit though. Hmm.

     @neanderthalsnavel This is how my local volunteer fire department operates. By far the best kind of fundraiser.

     Got a little bit of everything. Gambling, donating, fun prizes (guns, ATVs, grills, etc).

     You buy your tickets knowing you probably won't win, but at least the money is going somewhere good.

     Hmm.... Maybe this is how I should raise funds for NAS operating costs?

     So the reason you hear about "sweepstakes" on the radio and shit is because the Federal government is a criminal cartel that make sure that they're the only ones allowed to run lotteries, which are prize + chance + consideration.

     So if you allow people to enter without purchase (mail-in), then you've removed consideration and it's now prize + chance, which is legally not a lottery.

     "No purchase necessary"

     Government is legalized broad daylight mafia.
