ok i think this would be a minimum viable RK3588 CPU module adapter for MNT Reform (hosting the Firefly iCore-3588Q module). we got a lot more PCIe lanes than i'm used to... notably absent is a WiFi/BT module, still need to select one and might add it in rev 2 only, but lets see how i feel about that tomorrow.

Tagemori (tagemori@blob.cat)'s status on Friday, 26-Jan-2024 05:27:01 JST Tagemori @mntmn It would be nice if mnt reform next will be able to get USB4 in the future, rk3588 has everything you need(PCIe, DisplayPort, USB, I2C) to connect a discrete USB4 controller. -
Shimrra Shai (shimrrashai@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 31-Jan-2024 05:32:55 JST Shimrra Shai @mntmn I am curious - as it wasn't a feature I'd been considering much at the moment while working on it - would it be possible to construct an RK3588 board where one could drive a full PCI-E x16 card and have expansible RAM? Can the module be paired with expansible RAM?

minute (mntmn@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 31-Jan-2024 06:49:22 JST minute @shimrrashai PCIe lanes are max 4 on one port on rk3588. Memory is not extensible separately from the cpu module, it's soldered on the system-on-module.

Shimrra Shai (shimrrashai@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 31-Jan-2024 09:08:04 JST Shimrra Shai @mntmn Thanks. Kinda unfortunate, but still, I think it's fairly decent (I've been using the ITX-3588J board for going on a couple of months now after finishing out the Tianocore firmware package for it, and for what I do it's sufficient as a computer.). Just wanted to know though what was theoretically possible on the hardware end.

minute (mntmn@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 31-Jan-2024 09:12:27 JST minute @shimrrashai i mean, i'm sure one could design a board around the rk3588 soc itself with memory slots, but i'm not sure what the upper limit on memory is (it's 32GB on the module), but we lack the resources/time/funding to do something that.
