   The trailer for the new Avatar: The Last Airbender show looks decent, but even if the show turns out to be a faithful recreation of the original I'm not sure what for? The original is already perfect. It's still there. Why does it have to be recreated again?

     @Gargron Because viewers will generally tolerate or enjoy the familiar, and the people who bankroll new shows are generally too cowardly to bet on new stories

     @Gargron A lot of stuff these days, from movies to anime to video games, seems to just be re-hashing existing content. People are out of new ideas and they know this stuff will make money, so they're giving old content a new coat of paint because it's a quick and easy cash grab.

     @Gargron It's silly, but animation is a non-starter for a lot of people. Live action will bring it to a wider audience 🤷♂️

     @Gargron media repetitive capitalism is a real thing. If they know it’s a sure thing they will rehash it over and over and over. We’ve been talking about this one a LOT in the entertainment sector lately. Why make another? The first (3) ones are sitting right there. lol.

     @Gargron I had this exact thought when watching the trailer. I’m wondering if it will possibly pull in an audience that is averse to animation or that initially passed on ATLA because it was marketed as a Nickelodeon kids cartoon.

     @Gargron I agree, but unfortunately a lot of people are biased against animation and simply consider "cartoons" beneath them

     @Gargron Movie execs are timid. They aren't willing to risk the production budget on an unknown quantity, so they remake something that is already popular. That will continue until people get sick of remakes.

     I was thinking much the same. The best they could do is remake it in animation and have a Full Metal Alchemist vs Brotherhood situation where both are good, just different.... But that's the best possible outcome and would be very unlikely.
