ahh, one of the most fun parts of doing software archaeology: finding out exactly how many viruses that retro machine had.
in this case: at least, like, 6?

yet another reason why you DO NOT CONNECT OLD MACHINES TO YOUR NETWORK without a lot of precautions
I also need to figure out how to run a "modern" virus scan against a machine that's like a 300mhz 64mb windows box.
maybe stick the drive in a VM, boot a modern linux with clamav?
@foone Maybe even some retro viruses like NIH / Chernobyl.
@dascandy42 I still find those from time to time while archiving floppy disks
@foone how old is old? Would viruses from a quarter century ago even “know” how to infect a modern OS?
@MishaVanMollusq you'd be surprised. backwards compatibility goes a long way, and given how long "search all SMB shares and overwrite all the EXE files" has been around, even a modern linux server's files can get hosed if you don't have passwords on internal network shares
@foone I'd be surprised if you didn't. Any Brain too?
@dascandy42 don't think so.
I mounted it on my win10 machine and let defender scan it.
Turns out it's at least 10 viruses!
@foone now with enhanced search results from CoolWebSearch!
clamscan found 5 more!
including mirc32.exe?
FOR SHAME, KHALED MARDAM-BEY!
@BenCurranDev presumably still developing mIRC: the latest version is 16 days old.
(his linkedin/facebook don't mention any other jobs, but I assume he does more than that)
@foone I wonder what he’s doing these days?
