     I fixed it. For some reason I downloaded SDL_bgi off github, which is an old version.
     the version on sourceforge is up to date

     ugh. there's an inconsistency between borland turbo C++ BGI and SDL_bgi.
     Left is BGI, right is SDL_bgi.

     There's an outline! a 1-pixel outline.

     @foone I saw the colour coding guide on the box of RJ-45 plugs the other day, and wondered if that had been deployed as a Pride flag yet.

     Then I realized "Attracted to people who can wire their own network" is probably an legitimate preference.
