Apparently the raspberry pi 5 no longer has an h.264 decoder, only a h.265 decoder.
I'm not sure how I feel about that. I mean the CPU is plenty powerful to use x264 or openh264 to decode it. It'll definitely use more power and generate more heat tho. For some use cases it'll be fine but not for others.
The Banana Pi BPI-M7 looks like it would make a great media centre PC.
Hardware accelerated decoding looks like this:
* Up to 8K@60 for H.265, VP9, and AVS2
* Up to 8K@30 for H.264
* Up to 4K@60 for AV1
* Up to 1080p@60 for MPEG-1, MPEG-2, VC-1, and VP8
They even have RAM options up to 32 GB.
The lowest model comes with 8 GB of RAM which would be more than enough for an HTPC.
It would be perfect for my Jellyfin plan.
