In some rare miracle, Wal-Mart is still holding my Metroid Prime 4 preorder from 2018
68.94$. I'll probably save like 20$ or so when it finally releases

@noyoushutthefuckupdad I remember this

@coolboymew
Broke: Preordering games to secure a physical copy on release date
Woke: Preordering games to get the preorder bonuses
Bespoke: Preordering games to avoid hyperinflation
-
@Duine The thing is, it was also when Canadian store did some rare "E3 discounts" so you preorder them early and get a small discount
Now the discount got bigger

@coolboymew I used to have an internet friend who was fond of saying "Always bet on Duke!" and then Duke Nukem Forever came out and it sucked and he stopped saying that
-
@noyoushutthefuckupdad I played Duke Nukem 1 and it's not terrible. A much better Commander Keen
-
@coolboymew I believe you mean "Duke Nukum"
-
@noyoushutthefuckupdad @coolboymew he's red, baked bean
-
@Nelenese @coolboymew and he canonically likes Oprah Winfrey

@coolboymew
I played Duke Nukem 3D and it's not terrible. A much better Doom.

@noyoushutthefuckupdad @Nelenese @coolboymew i mean everyone liked oprah in the 90s, so ehhh
-
@coolboymew @noyoushutthefuckupdad i played through entirety of Duke Nukum and Duke Nukem II and currently in process of playing through Commander Keen series.
Keen < Nukum < Nukem II
it's funny how Duke Nukum technically is the worst but somehow plays better and is more interesting than Keen, idk maybe just shooting stuff is fun, and limited ammo is bullshit for such type of game.

@hj @noyoushutthefuckupdad Keen came way before no? Keen is very early DOS platforming and shitty level design designed around collecting useless shit haphazardly scattered. The better Keen games also suffer from early DOS scrolling. Nukum 1 was surprisingly fun. Looking forward to trying 2 eventually, it looks way better from the screens

@coolboymew @noyoushutthefuckupdad Keen is one of the first displays of Sheer Unrestricted Power Of John Carmack's Brain tho, it was way ahead of its time in technical way. If you play Duke Nukum you'll quickly realize that level essentially moves in "lockstep", essentially one greed unit at a time, it's very not smooth, and I think entities also move like that. Keen is MUCH smoother even though it's earlier.
