   It's funny seeing anime dub watchers suddenly care about dub quality when the AI dub discussion came. Why would anyone else cares? Everyone else already thinks it's bottom of the barrel, why would they care if it gets worse or not?
   
   Instead of the people holding the industry by the balls with fantranslations and edits, and etc. dubs fans instead are the ones held by the balls by the industry and the industry knows it. What are they gonna do? Go watch it subbed now? Ain't happening at this point

     @battlepenguin Yes, subs are not immune, but we can easily have fantranslator fix them
     
     As for Bebop it's a tired argument, it's been like 20-25 years by this point and it's still the one show that dub watchers use when arguing FOR dubs. It's getting a bit ridiculous. Also no, Gundam Wing's dub is unwatchable

     @coolboymew Weren't there also issues with localizes also fucking up the subs as well? .. also some anime hires really good English voice actors: Steam Boy, Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Gundam W .. you can argue Bebop is what brought a lot of people into the anime world. I'll sometimes listen to a series with subs one ep, dubs the next, to get a feeling of which voice actors I like better.

     @coolboymew @battlepenguin agreed, Bebop is the "once in a decade" exception. I can name the other tolerable quality dubs (not even good, just tolerable) on one hand. The only other dub I will genuinely call good is Black Lagoon

     @SNEK I personally consider complete rewrites on another level, mostly because they don't pretend to be the original work. But yeah, to use as an argument for dub that's... weak

     @coolboymew you see it paired with the Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, Space Dandy and Hellsing dubs fairly often which is really irksome. Honestly if someone's performance cam be replaced by a machine and you wouldn't notice the difference without being told that says more about the VA than anything negative about the AI. Personally I think most of this anti-AI push has at least partly to do with wanting to gatekeep independent projects would could now have passable quality voice and circumvent the incestuous VA scene.
