When did you join the cult of Linux?
I started in 1994 ;)

@nixCraft I think I got the yggdrasil distro maybe in 1995. I'd been working in NetBSD (when Theo was still with NetBSD) and Theo pulled one of his "He forgot his meds today" abuse mails with me, so I said the hell with *BSD. I went from yggdrasil to slackware and starting going, hey, interesting. Not bad. Amusingly was back in NetBSD, FreeBSD and OpenBSD within a few years up to about 2010- but sticking with linux mostly since then. Linux has matured a lot.
@nixCraft Same...
@nixCraft 0.94
@nixCraft 1998
@nixCraft Installed RH for the first time in 1998/99., before Enterprise Linux existed. Used SunOS in school before that, so I already understood how *nix worked.
@nixCraft first used Solaris in 1994, had my first slackware running on a scrap 486 the next year.
@nixCraft 2008
@nixCraft 1998. God bless you, Fred, and your xfishtank hijinks for introducing me to one of the great loves of my life.
@nixCraft
I dabbled on a 486SX way back. A few decades later in 2020 I cold-switched fully. I've been quite content ever since.
@nixCraft 2014 when I couldn't get Windows on my Dell PC and thought "might as well try Mint out"
@nixCraft in 2007
@nixCraft Latecomer, I joined as a user. 2007, when I had just bought a Dell laptop with Vista, and needed something that worked on a Dell laptop. I read Adrian Kingsley-Hughes' review of Ubuntu Edgy (which included step by step on how to dual-boot). Within a few months, I was giving Fiesty all the partitions. Still a user, not a coder
@nixCraft 1998
@nixCraft 2022! And I haven't looked back.
@nixCraft 2001 with Knoppix followed by Gentoo a few months later.
@nixCraft 1997, and slackware was the one I liked the most
@nixCraft 94, slackware
@nixCraft Wow I'm impressed by all the Linux users prior to the new millennium. I have used Linux previously but I went all in in 2023
@nixCraft in 2007 opensuse
@nixCraft Started in 1993 on a slackware distro bought in a bookstore on my Highscreen 486DX33 with a 170Mb disk drive and 256 kb VGA video card.
Later a Suse distro, then a Redhat distro, then Novell Linux (as i am still fond of Novell) Later on Ubuntu.

Windows 11
Reason... Delphi runs on windows, and Delphi is so great that i accept windows on the side.
Considering Lazarus now, a delphi clone that is getting better and better now and runs on linux as well.
@nixCraft 2013-2014 in junior hs. Almost half of my life using linux
@nixCraft 1998 with a boxed version of S.u.S.E. I was in withdrawals from not having a Unix shell account.
@nixCraft Arounf the 2.2 Kernel, pre-2000
@nixCraft I had a dual boot for a long time until I finally ditched windows completely in 2021, fairly recently.
So far, it has been great, I love GNU/Linux ❤️🔥
@nixCraft linux .99 plxx you had to compile it according to your hardware
@nixCraft I switched from running two machines and a KVM to Linux and virtualbox the same day Vista was released. I did this after reading the reviews and verifying that RDP worked fine under Linux.
@nixCraft I think 2017? It's been forever it feels like now lol.
@nixCraft everyone here is like 90s and early 2000s and then there's me, who started in like 2019 😂. So am I the newby here?🤣
@nixCraft I tried but they won’t let me join 🥹
