@moffintosh @Kagekokoro @kaia @dushman @Moon @Hyolobrika "strawmanning" I just made a comment that I find trades people's work more valuable than ddoctors. it was kind of a half shitpost but I'm not sure how it's a strawman of anyone else's position.

@Kagekokoro @kaia @dushman @moffintosh @Moon @Hyolobrika I have not been to a doctor in 2 decades. It's possible I should go at some point, but eh... fuck it.
As I mentioned I was half joking, but I don't hold the medical industry in very high esteem.

Never needed a doctor?

I'm not talking about the pharma-medical industry, just about the local doctor that actually cares about the patients getting well, kind of like a classical rural doctor archetype
I think all professions are important and relevant, but giving both the same pay/resources for their work is just not fair in my opinion
And I also seldom visit a doctor, so I can kinda relate

@Kagekokoro @kaia @dushman @moffintosh @Moon @Hyolobrika Yeah I wouldn't advocate for paying everyone the same. I was more or less shitposting. I think the value of a person's skills really depends on what value other people place on it. A doctor is assumed to be highly skilled, and more individuals are likely to consider the product of the skilled doctor to be of higher value than the brick layer. It is funny though that at the end of the day the man laying bricks might actually leave something behind that can be appreciated for centuries which **could** open room for the argument that their labor is of higher value. At the end of the day a sick person who is scared to die will pay just about anything for a little more time. We can shop around more for someone who can competently lay bricks without risking our lives in most cases.

It is assumed to be of higher value because it requires more preparation in order for the job to be executed
You will pay a skilled/educated and experienced worker a higher wage than an inexperienced or uneducated one, I think we can agree on this point
The bricklayers you talk about are highly skilled and well paid, the ones that are not just do not have the drive for that greatness and are relegated to be forgotten, as are most of us no matter how skilled we are or how well job we do

@Kagekokoro @kaia @dushman @moffintosh @Moon @Hyolobrika yeah I agree with you. I think the life and death aspect does also play a role in determining the value when it comes to medical costs too though.
