     @nixCraft I have been on the internet since the early 90s. For James Chapman to write that in 2000 is hilarious. It was no passing fad or even close to that by 2000 (by the mid-90s, really).

     @nixCraft We need to get Snopes on that one. Every image I can find of this supposed Daily Mail article from December 5th, 2000 has the folds of the newspaper in exactly the same place, nor do we ever see the rest of the page it appeared on -- the image is always cropped halfway.

     @nixCraft ignobel prize deserving article, shows by example that the Internet is awesome and teaches that the opinion of journalists is irrelevant. Journalists have competence in reporting events, their opinions have the same value as my aunt's.

     @nixCraft Even though there is a saying that goes the hindsight is 20/20, some new techs don't seem to be just "fads" in a kinda obvious way, in that how well it infiltrates to everyday life and how diverse its potentials are.

     @nixCraft Thinking back this was when I started to work from home/mobile (mobile as on the road, not mobile phones) more. Raised issues with hotels trying to get a line I could plug my stuff in for the inevitable long dial up times.

     Issued with a sweet Nokia at that time as well with limited ability.
