Charliebrownau (charliebrownau@pieville.net)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Jan-2023 08:19:51 JST Charliebrownau @Wormwood Thats why Ive recommended Windows users replace closed source, cloud and paid apps with open source on Windows first
Once you get used of the programs
then you have no reason to stick with Windows as the OSWhat programs you having issues with btw ?
You given a go
Shotcut video editor
LibreWolf
Unjewogled Chomium
Along with
SearX instead of jewogle searchand
Jitsi Meet instead of Zoom/Skype -
Wormwood (wormwood@poa.st)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Jan-2023 08:19:52 JST Wormwood @charliebrownau That's it 100%. I've tried to make the switch, it's just so hard to run the programs I'm used to -
Charliebrownau (charliebrownau@pieville.net)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Jan-2023 12:22:06 JST Charliebrownau For printing I would recommend setting up a small little dedicated print server, this way its shared on the LAN
If its got a vendor provided Debian/Deb driver
then it should work in LinuxI dont have the printer
Here is a way YOU can test it
Grab the debian driver, copy to USB stick #2
make USB stick #1 bootable with
Debian 11 non free live ISOBoot PC with printer connected with USB stick 1
Once in OS in LIVE mode
install deb file via cli
do testprint -

Does this official driver work?

Wormwood (wormwood@poa.st)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Jan-2023 12:22:08 JST Wormwood @charliebrownau Also my printer would rather put a bullet in it's head than work with Linux. I've tried looking into it a million different ways. The best solution seems to be to write my own driver from scratch -

Living Space Studios :verified: (livingspacestudios@poa.st)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Jan-2023 12:26:27 JST Living Space Studios :verified: @Wormwood @charliebrownau I would suggest to new Linux users that they try Linux Mint as their first Linux because the interface is deliberately similar in look and feel to Windows except it has a search system that actually works and it doesn't have any ads popping up in the "Windows" menu.
Gimp and Krita can replace Photoshop for 99% of work you might do with them. As a Game Developer I use Krita for pretty everything visual art related. Also Photoshop runs okay in Wine from what I've heard.
Steam nowadays has Wine support built in to it. You just go into the settings of whatever game your playing and tell it to use Proton. It works for 95%-98% of games on Steam out of the box with little to no configuration. In conversation permalink -

100-500 per machine every 12 months
Instead of spending 1000-5000 dollars ONCE on improving open source
Im going to be doing a video soon
If I could snap my fingers and become the dictator, what would I do

fishsticks (fishsticks@poa.st)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Jan-2023 17:03:27 JST fishsticks @charliebrownau @Wormwood Honestly nothing can really replace adobe tools in a professional setting especially if you're used to them at this point. Genuinely the only reason why I'm forced to use windows at all unfortunately. The best option for semi-normalfag general use is to run Linux with a bare metal vm running windows for adobe garbage exclusively. If it's for crime or racism a computer for work that isn't connected to the internet in any way running windows and a computer for poasting running some secure version of Linux like whonix is the best option imo if you're going for professional work. If I ever become dictator I'm forcing adobe to open source everything before the real violence starts btw In conversation permalink
