Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: (thatguyoverthere@shitposter.club)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Jan-2023 05:03:31 JST Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: I thought we were talking about something else. When I’m like “everyone should learn how to code”, it’s not to give credence to your basic GitHub issues sourpuss. I’m with you on that one. Instead, it’s a reaction to the veneer of network path dependent silos like Instagram, Hacker News, Facebook, YouTube, how our infastructure is being gatekept by modern-day Priests of Ra who are stacking their castle walls on layers and layers and layers of abstraction and toolkits, locking everything down and wrapping your basic everyday tools in hard plastic and planned obsolescence. It’s a celebration of how coding can be a foundation for other fields and philosophies, how it can help us reason about our interactions with nature, others, and ourselves. How market capitalism is a broken program and how we need the best minds of our generation to set things straight before we burn the world. 🤷🏻♀️

Knowing how to change your oil and brakes can save you a butt load on car maintenance.
No one is saying you have to go it alone, but learning how the things you rely on work beyond a basic operational skill level is probably a good thing. -
Hypocrite Hater (hyolobrika@gleasonator.com)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Jan-2023 06:35:13 JST Hypocrite Hater @thatguyoverthere But how far do you want to take this?
Should everyone also build their own house from scratch? Grow all their food? Build their own computer they are using to code on from scratch? Manufacture their own car including all the materials to make the car? Cobble their own shoes?
No individual can bootstrap the modern world from scratch. So you're going to have to draw the line somewhere.Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this. -

You're arguing that the difficulties involved with machining a car from raw materials justify being ignorant of how to drill and tap.Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this. -
