#BestVidyaGirlContest Post-Tournament Analysis (Bonus Matches)
Before the final showdown between Samus and Tamamo, I thought it would be nice to have some bonus matches that as opposed to pitting the fanbases of different franchises against each other, instead sought to settle various internal rivalries. It would be a nice change of pace, presumably allow for some more light-hearted matches and even letting us see some big-name Touhou girls in action without the usual accompanying whining.
Another benefit of the bonus matches was making up for some of the most egregious Snubs of the contest, by giving a number of the snubbed Waifus a chance to truly show what they were truly capable of, against proven competition – another thing I considered important. I wanted these outsiders to go up against girls who had performed well in the tournament and were well-established powerhouses. Having a match where, say, Monika narrowly beats Yuri, or Kafka beats Seele, isn’t really worth much, given how poorly the likes of Yuri and Seele performed. But an outsider beating or even going somewhat even with tournament titans like Reimu, Pyra and 2B? That is obviously way more interesting and exciting.
1ST BONUS MATCH
Remilia Scarlet VS Flandre Scarlet (Touhou)
Remilia: 59 votes
Flandre: 40 votes
Ever since learning that Remilia was actually the big sister of Flandre, this always struck me as a great, almost *necessary* bonus match. That said, it also seemed somewhat cruel to Remilia – the master of the Scarlet Devil Mansion had already been horribly screwed over by the tournament bracket, and now she looked destined to finish with a 1 – 2 record of wins – losses because she had the misfortune of going up against her insanely popular sister? The girl who consistently beats Remilia in Touhou popularity polls, and whose memes and music have achieved popularity that far transcends the Touhou fandom? Damn, Remilia just had the worst luck ever…
Or not! Because while the match did start off very close, even dead even at various points, and while Flandre did get a good amount of support (UN Owen Was Her certainly got plenty of play), it didn’t take too long before *Remilia* started pulling away, and once she had racked up a decent lead, she never looked back. While Flandre clearly had lots of fans (not to mention that a number of users professed their adoration for BOTH of the Scarlet sisters), Remilia proved to be the stronger girl by far, and ended up with a very comfortable 60% - 40% win, a phenomenal showing that went a long way towards validating the Touhou underdog’s phenomenal performance against Samus.
Don’t get me wrong – the Same Fanbase Factor and lower vote totals do skew the results somewhat, and can absolutely give you the wrong idea about the strength of certain contestants – for example, while UMP45 performed better than Flandre against Remilia, I’m 99% sure Flandre beats UMP45 1v1. That said, Remilia scoring such a big win over her VERY beloved sister, coupled with Reimu’s performance against Marisa in the shrine maiden’s own bonus match, does convince me that no, Samus didn’t underperform all that badly against Remilia, the Scarlet Devil truly is a beast, and indeed was the strongest Touhou girl who participated in the tournament. On Fedi at least, Remilia DOES beat Reimu.
- :awoo_tired: shotgun snuggler :clownpiece_smug: repeated this.

@ChristiJunior The allegation that no one plays Touhou is not true but I don’t know anyone on fedi who has beaten this bitch.

@ChristiJunior I was fine with either

3RD BONUS MATCH
Fio Germi VS Eri Kasamoto (Metal Slug)
Fio Germi: 52 votes
Eri Kasamoto: 21: votes
I’m gonna level with you guys, this was a Filler match through and through. I wanted 6 Bonus matches in total, spread out over 2 days, and while I had eventually decided on 5 match-ups I was very happy with, I came up blank with regard to the final match. Eventually, I remembered that there WAS another notable Metal Slug girl who could be considered Fio Germi’s rival, and despite her round 2 loss Fio had performed so well that she’d make for a good indicator of whether Eri actually boasted real contest strength or not. So this was the match I went with – and knowing even beforehand that this was probably the weakest match-up of the lot, I had it take place during Day 1 of the bonus matches, since Remilia and 2B’s matches were strong enough to Carry a potential last slot dud.
And what a dud this match was – Fio Germi scoring the second biggest blowout of the entire contest, and with very low vote totals (lowest of the entire contest) indicating a general lack of interest in this match-up, there really wasn’t much to talk about. I guess it’s worth noting that as badly as Eri did, she STILL got more votes than Yuri managed to get against Samus. And of course, the Same Fanbase Factor probably makes Eri look way weaker than she actually is, since a lot of Fio fans would likely support her against many other girls. But in terms of the Metal Slug hierarchy, there’s not a shadow of doubt that the Italian gun girl is the Metal Slug Queen.
In retrospect, a better idea for the final bonus match would have been a Girls' Frontline duel between UMP45 and the one and only Negev. Sure, UMP45 was a round 1 loser, but so was Dawn, and I still gave her a bonus match during Day 2 because of just how close her match with eventual semifinalist Ryza was. I’d say UMP45’s excellent showing against the incredibly strong Remilia (which in terms of extrapolated strength actually puts her very close to Fio Germi) qualifies her for a bonus match, and boy, would it have been fun to see how most iconic Jew Waifu (along with Abigail Shapiro) would have been received. I’m genuinely curious if she’d be anti-voted to hell (we never saw a true Contest Villain in this tournament, though you could argue that the likes of 2B and Patchouli, hell, Touhou in general eventually ended up filling that role), whether she’d be embraced as /ourkike/, if people would Cope about her not *really* being Jewish, or if the Hate Fuck/UOOH CORRECTION NEEDED Factor would actually have benefited her. Either way, it would have been fascinating to watch, and UMP45 also deserved another chance to show her stuff after being bracket screwed. Easily one of my biggest regrets of the tournament, along with not adding some extra girls to the Qualifier Poll.

2ND BONUS MATCH
2B VS A2 (Nier: Automata)
2B: 76 votes
A2: 73 votes
Even before coming up with the best vidya girl contest I was interested in seeing just how this match-up would go down, and given just how much shit 2B got from A2 fans during her ill-fated tournament run, this was one grudge match that definitely NEEDED to happen. That said, I couldn’t really imagine A2 actually beating 2B – the newer YoRHa model is just WAY more iconic and recognizable. Hell, before playing Nier: Automata, I actually thought A2 was a Futa (I had her mixed up with Kainé), while I knew full well that there was nothing sus about 2B’s glorious booty, so at that point voting 2B would have been a no-brainer for me. And even if you HAVE played the game, A2 only becomes playable 2/3rds into Automata, and only *after* the most boring/repetitive section, and her campaign hasn’t been adapted by the anime yet. Also, she cuts her hair before becoming playable, so yeah…
As such, before the actual match I expected 2B to dominate among neutrals, and probably also win with actual Nier fans, with voter enthusiasm being the only thing A2 had going for her. And early on, 2B did certainly dominate; indeed, she seemed to be heading for the kind of 70-30 beatdown that would have exposed A2 stans as nothing but a loud minority who were envious of the superior android girl. However, A2 would go on to not only cut into 2B’s lead, but outright erase it – 2B quickly went from breaking 70% to being in the low 50s, and before you knew it, the battle androids were tied – and then *A2* ended up breaking away and establishing a somewhat solid lead, at one point being up 54% - 46%, before 2B brought it closer, without quite managing to wrest away A2’s shock lead.
Keep in mind, this was only one out of the three Bonus matches going on at the time, and in the other two the tournament reps (Remilia and Fio Germi) were convincingly taking care of business and plapping the challengers. Legendary vidya Waifu 2B seemingly proving to be the weak link was NOT a twist I saw coming (as I mentioned earlier, I expected Flandre to be the most dangerous challenger besides maybe Marisa). And it wasn’t like 2B was another Tifa either – in all 3 of her matches, 2B had clearly displayed Elite strength. This wasn’t actually a case of 2B being exposed as weak, this was clearly A2 turning out to be something of a monster herself.
And A2 did actually hold onto the lead throughout most of the match – butt it turned out that despite choking away her second big lead in a row, 2B would still have the last laugh. During the dying hours of the poll, 2B struck the decisive blow, assassinating her rival and executing a clutch comeback. It was ultimately yet another weird and disappointing match on 2B’s part, though at least this time she showed herself capable of winning a close match against a strong opponent. But still, the back-to-back near-collapses indicate that 2B keeps getting anti-voted HARD, to the extent that even 2Butt’s incredible natural strength can’t always secure her the win.
Also, while it was something of a shame for A2 to have the win snatched away from her so late into the match, make no mistake, this was still an amazing performance by her – and in a match with vote totals that were very high by bonus match standards (only Reimu VS Marisa would outdo it), further confirming that A2 is the real deal. If she qualifies for Season 2 of the #BestVidyaGirlContest, expect her to do some damage.

@ChristiJunior Of course the Italian girl was going to win. Eri is a slut (still better than any toujew or furry). But the anti-Italian sentiment prevented Fio from winning the entire contest. Everyone who didn't vote for Fio is a popularis (bad).
