Of course I'm 日本語を練習します. It's part of my New Year Resolutions. Just the reading part however, as reproduction is likely beyond me and listening comprehension is almost a pipe dream. Other resolution is to treat myself just a little. Starting with PC upgrades. Surely a 3000 series card is still viable for AI fuckery, yes?
I also want to hear from others here who have some kind of NAS setup, and if Linux really is the way to go. No such thing as too much digital hoarding these days.

@Yagamaska @rlier23 I'm going with Unraid for my NAS setup.
After doing some research, TrueNAS sounds like a massive pain in the ass.
I just need to wait for my next paycheck for a 8TB parity drive so i can start building.

Don't want anything fancy. Just my own personal Crunchyroll for the learning experience. Truthfully, I already have a setup since last year but it's woefully basic and probably incomplete. There's space for just one HDD. Max. So I went with an 8TB and fumbled my way into getting Jellyfin to work and stream to my main PC. What little else I did was use Fileszilla to periodically send shit over. Very slowly.
I want to expand that to a real streaming machine. And probably a NAS as well. Surely it can be both. Not counting the 8TB that already has Ubuntu inside, I'll want two HDDs no smaller than 10TB. Ideally I should go for an SSD as well but I AM saving money here and the spare motherboard I have lacks an M.2 slot. RAID, I know nothing about except it's no substitute for external HDDs as backups but I don't think external 10TB sizes exist. As things stand now I just need a (small) ATX case, PSU, and GPU. Even then the latter two can be harvested from my main PC if only to give me an excuse to finally replace them.
If I prove to be especially serious and not finicky with my wallet, I'd like to get all of this done within Q1 of this year.

@Yagamaska @rlier23 The nice thing about Unraid is that you mix different sized drives and its easier to use than Truenas. The only downside is that its not free.
I bought one of these cases. 8 bays should last me a long ass time and its pretty compact.
-
@Yagamaska @rlier23 That's the Silverstone SST-CS382. But yeah its MicroATX.
If you have a full ATX board and don't care about size than the Fractal Design R5 is a very popular choice for a NAS case.

I can't see myself going beyond four unless I'm dead set on doing the RAID thing. It'd also mean that many external drives for backup purposes. Also, that appears to be microATX. I get that and the spare mobo won't fit. Trying to cut as much expenses as possible, hence the need for an ATX case. Unless that's what that is by which case, name please.
