   @narada @Kyonko802 buddy bought a thinkpad because that's a "real" computer and it's got a burned out TB port, said everyone tells him he's dumb for not just soldering in a new port I sat there listening to him hoping he didn't remember I recommended it, too

     @birdulon @narada @Kyonko802 IDK, he made it sound like it was "simple". Turns out the vaunted thinkpads had a few [years where they just burned out the type C ports if they didn't have the right updates..kind of ruins that image of the invincible old IBM. Guess everything sucks now. All soldered, 16gb ram, 256 gb ssd, hot-running shitboxes

     ive heard framework laptops are good
     also, i've heard that there's a lot of lottery regarding tech. some people get absolutely good stuff, and some other people get the same thing but its a lemon. argh.
     I plan on getting a stinkpad, but might settle for an asus vivobook

     I've had a new thinkpad every 4 years at my job and each iteration they get worse. Even though it sounds like a jet engine taking off when running on full blast it struggles to open emails in the bloatware that is windows 11.
