     This is a very excellent clarification. Thank you for it!

     I think I will continue with my practice of not doing that donation (& reserve the right to my irritation with the whole process, because it definitely feels like they're trying to guilt me into making a donation—which I freely concede may well be more about me than the corporation.)

     @cavyherd @nathans that's not to say that i encourage donating on checkout, btw. for one you don't get the choice of which charity to support and have no time to research the charity in question. also doing a donation directly gives you receipts you may use to get tax benefits yourself.

     i also think it's generally preferable when money goes to charity (except maybe the really horrible ones) instead of the government, but i guess that's controversial 🤷.

     @cavyherd because it's not. the stores don't get any tax benefits for that. and i found it a bit annoying that you were thanking him for reassuring your biases with misinformation.

     it's also the reason @nathans deleted the post. i expressed my disappointment that he didn't edit the post with a correction, which would have notified everyone who faved or boosted it. and he blocked me for it 🙄.

     Thank you for this. I hadn't really thought it through, & mostly have felt grumpy at being guilted about "small charitable donation to a worthy cause."

     But this is makes it MUCH easier to mentally tell them to fuck off.

     Too bad there's not a button for "pay your own damn taxes, jackhole."
