LSi never watch movies during flights but if find it irresistible to peek at what other people are watching, it's interesting because i'm essentially watching the movies as silent movies. Most of the time it's easy to understand what's going on, but with the barbie movie there was absolutely nothing.
I think modern cinema has gotten a LOT more stupid. Try watching an episode of The Dukes Of Hazzard from the 70s, you actually have to pay attention not to lose the plot. And that was a TV show for beer drinking hillbillies.
@cjd@adiz every time i watch a classic movie i'm impressed, every time i watch an 80s movie i'm entertained, but with current day movies it's mostly nothing. still, people seem to like them, mostly.
@lain@lain.com There are still good movies being made, but it's definitely a rarity these days. Not sure why. Just looking back at the early 00s and the 90s and most movies were pretty damn solid. Now, so much of it is mass-produced hog-slop. There are still some good directors out there who make quality stuff though, and studios like A24 pumping out consistently good material. @dcc@annihilation.social@cjd@pkteerium.xyz
With YT, we now have a clear vision of what people actually want to watch. A lot of it is cheap fluff, but a lot of it is intellectually stimulating - though there really isn't any storytelling anymore.
@cjd@dcc@lain@adiz That's because deep storytelling has moved to longer-form series, while well-funded movies have turned into theme park rides, as the least common denominator for international audiences.
