   @ageha my mother has older friends who 10 years ago believed in mandatory jailtime who are now weekly dispo visiters its insane how much something being illegal vs being legal changes peoples willingness to do it

     @vriska @ageha just heard about that today that the Nazi party (and the SS and SA) had thought that the people would join in when they destroyed jewish shops and houses during Kristallnacht, but it didn't happen because people generally didn't actually hate 'the jews' next door. They then analyzed the situation and said that to move forward they had to make laws against jews, and that worked. People were more than happy to denounce their neighbors once there was legislation that made it 'good'.
