   @moyai @RealRaul @SuperSnekFriend also a little fun fact about U-511/Ro-500 (third from left in the photo), under the Kriegsmarine as a type IXC u-boot, she spent a lot of her time in the middle/south Atlantic doing patrols in the Carribbean, Azores, and off the shores of Nigeria. by the time she entered service with the IJN as part of a technology exchange in '43, she was a well-weathered but capable submarine, with her tan as Ro-500 in Kancolle showing that.

     @moyai @RealRaul @SuperSnekFriend in wwi and wwii, submarines were typically staffed by the unmarried, or people with little relatives if any for a reason. you're manning a steel tube that will get sunk in war (a horrific way to die).
