   "Options are good" as a response to people complaining about easy mode (and usually, the lack of an hard mode) is virtue signaling bullshit
   
   "Options are good", but fuck you, fuck YOUR wanted option. You don't get to have it, but people that don't actually want to play the game will
   
   It's a virtue signaling consolation prize in defense of the corp actually not giving the time of day to the people who actually want to play the game. It's absolutely simpery

     My issue is people on what is basically hardcore gaming forum just excusing this kinda bullshit by attempting to look virtuous while doing it
     
     The reality is that games are definitively implementing game journos modes while often ignoring having balanced and good hard modes, if at all, hence why people are pissy about easy modes in general

     @coolboymew Hard mode needs more love. Bland grinds or big bullet-sponge enemies shouldn't be the only difference between a regular and a more difficult game. Sadly, even that typical "hard mode" would be too much for devs to implement, and it's easier just to make it more "accessible" for those game reviewers that want it.

     @coolboymew I will defend things like Din's Curse and Mount & Blade allowing fine-grain difficulty control. It's SP/co-op, you should be allowed to cheat against the computer if you want.
     But yes, you should also have the ability to ramp it up to bullshit hard mode if you want.

     The issue is when you have ultra piss easy mode and nothing else
     
     It would have been trivial to at least include a menu to turn off the QoL stuff that makes it even easier

     a lot of times it goes beyond a toggleable "easy mode* and ruins the normal mode under the guise of "quality of life" or something.
     
     They completely butchered SMT Strange Journey with this by letting you save anywhere and a slew of other overkill additions.

     good hard modes/difficulty are hard to find. Many games do the "just increase health and damage output and that's it" instead of increasing enemy intelligence

     @coolboymew @Zerglingman As stupid as it sounds, I think fine grained difficulties make the average gamer today feel bad and result in lower sales if included. Their first impression of the game is choosing Hard, getting demolished, then dropping the game entirely instead of trying normal. The gamer of today isn't the gamer of the past. They could maybe hide Hard mode until a normal completion, but only something like 10-20% of game purchases result in completed games (not 100%, just normal endgames).

     @Zettour @Zerglingman the big issue tho' is that easy mode is handholding mode, normal mode is easy mode, and hard mode is normal mode and anything possibly harder (if any) usually runs with the assumption that you've finished the game already so you need to have that knowledge to tackle it

     @coolboymew I kinda hate difficulty options it often leads to an unbalanced game. somany games are too hard on hard mode but too easy on normal mode. I often start a game on normal mode blast through the first level without any trouble and set it to hard, and then after a few levels, i hit a huge spike in difficulty and get frustrated
