Ahh, a new holiday tradition: looking up Atomic Rockets' mission page to guess at how long it should take The Martians from Santa Claus Conquers the Martians to get from Earth to Mars

In Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, they make three trips in December and supposedly make it back before the 24th. (mars->earth->mars->earth)
Even ignoring that they spent some amount of time on Mars/Earth (maybe an hour on earth, at least a day on Mars), that still means they crossed in 8 days at most.
Pretty fast.

And the Martians seem to think this is bad and that they need their stealth thing turned back on.
So they seem to think the US rocket can keep up with them. -

This takes place in some kind of weird version of a torchship setting where the US has the ability to fly from earth to Mars in a bit over a week, but hasn't yet used this technology yet... despite Mars being both habitable and inhabited.

The earth ship isn't able to stop the Martians en route, and the Martians are more freaked out by the fact they're being followed at all, and off-screen they realize they can just outrun the humans and thus stop worrying about the ship.
(it does disappear from the narrative pretty quick) -
