I had two lumps of something flat come down off the roof in the storm we just had, I can’t see any missing slates or obvious gaps in the cement between the slates and the eves so I’m thinking they might have been from on top of that bit of flashing: all the rest of it on that and the working chimney is covered over.

It looks like it's been taking on water for a while. Hard to tell if it still is from the picture. If it's damp it's a sure bet it is.
